There are many varieties of the garnet family and the color change garnet is one among the most sought for. The reason for this stone popularity is due to its excellent color change characteristics. It is also called as poor mans alexandrite for it typically resembles the color change nature. Andalusite gemstone is also called poor man's alexandrite but there was no known fact for a color changing phenomenon in andalusite but for the sparks of green, red and blue seen in different angles irrespective of the light source. But color change garnet has the natural phenomenon to change the color from a range of colors- green, Khaki, brown, grey and blue to purplish pink, pink, sometimes red under incandescent light. This effect is said to be the result of the presence of vanadium or chromium content. This color change phenomenon is also seen is some sapphires also.
The color change garnets are widely used in jewelry and fine grades are most often sought by gemstone collectors for its exuberant brilliance and fine sparkling color change.
